How caffeine gets removed

CO2 processing is generally regarded as the cleanest of the three, because the CO2 simply evaporates and leaves nothing behind.
Why anyone wants caffeine removed
- Timing freedom. A caffeinated extract taken in the evening can interfere with sleep. A decaffeinated one does not.
- Stacking. People already taking coffee or pre-workout may not want an additional stimulant load.
- Sensitivity. Caffeine sensitivity varies substantially between individuals.
- Isolating the variable. If you are taking an extract for the catechins, caffeine is a confounder.
What "caffeine-free" should mean on a label
Decaffeination reduces caffeine to trace levels rather than to absolute zero in most processes. A supplier should be able to state the residual level. Our EGCG 800 is produced as a caffeine-free 98% EGCG extract, and every batch is third-party tested.

Does EGCG have caffeine?
EGCG itself does not; it is a distinct molecule. Green tea extracts contain caffeine unless decaffeinated.

It can, depending on method. This is why the EGCG percentage on the finished extract matters more than the process description alone.
